Congratulations to all of the students for meeting the challenge of the 1st quarter of third grade. A lot of new information and routines were thrown at them and they have successfully met the challenge.
This week we have several quizzes. Wednesday will be a quiz on Communities & Resources (Social Studies) and on Friday will be a quiz on Chapter 5 in Religion. As usual there will be a Spelling test on Friday.
Room-parent Mrs. Chua will be sending home the list for this year’s Red Bucket Food Drive later this week. Let see if we can get enough food for 2 buckets.

Many thanks to Mrs. Trachsel for coming in to the classroom and helping us decorate the pumpkins the students brought to class.
On Friday, all third graders should come to school in their Halloween costumes. Eighth graders will come in and help the students get dressed into their saints costumes. The Saint’s Parade will start at 10:00 am. After the parade the students will change back into their Halloween costumes and attend a buddy activity with the 8th grade.
The students are welcome to bring Halloween treats to their classmates. There are 16 students in the 3rd grade. There must be enough for every member of the class.
This Friday is last day of the 1st quarter. Please check Gradelink for any missing assignments. Parent Conferences will be held Tuesday, November 10th.

We are back to a normal schedule this week. The 1st quarter ends on November 2nd. Check gradelink to see if your child has any missing assignments.
We will have the postponed Religion quiz on Wednesday. This will cover chapter 4. Also we will have a lesson quiz on Landforms of the United States as well on Wednesday.
Flyers went home on Monday explaining the All Saints Parade and Halloween. Each child was given a saint name. They will need to come to school on Friday (10/30) in their Halloween costume and bring their saint costume with them. The saint costume can be a very generic robe type costume.
This week is Character Counts Week. We will be doing fun activities throughout the week, some with our budddy class, 8th grade. We have been focusing in class on following the words of Jesus that are: “Love one another as I have loved you.” This ties in as well with the six pillars of Character Counts.

Friday will be the 3rd grade retreat. A letter came home in the plastic envelope. Don’t forget to drop your child off at the Parish Center located next to the Good Shepherd Church. The cross streets are Santa Monica Blvd. and Bedford. I will be at the Parish Center by 7:45. DO NOT leave your child at the school for they will have no way to get up to the church. Pick up will be after the 12:00 mass in the parking lot next to the church. Many thanks to the parents who are supplying snacks!
School pictures went home on Tuesday. If you are not happy with your child’s portrait, please send them back to the school and retakes will be on Monday the 19th of October.
Tuesday’s homework should be page 14 in the Lang. Arts book, not page 13.
On Thursday we will have a Religion quiz on Chapter 4.

The third grade works with a color-coded system. Each student has a car with her/his name on it. At the beginning of each day the student”s car is on green. Students are given a verbal warning to change behavior. After that their card is moved to yellow and then to red if they have not corrected their behavior. A red card at the end of the day will result in a note home to their parent. Several notes home will then lead to an infraction slip. Uncorrected behavior will result in a conference with the parent. If you have any questions, do not hesitate to drop me a note or call.
