What’s Happening This Week

 

Please bring any of the following items:

North Central Animal Shelter Drive

Through the end of February (29th)

 

 

 

The fourth grade is sponsoring an animal shelter drive for the animals of the North Central Animal Shelter.

 

 

 

The shelter is in need of the following items:

 

       -Bleach

 

       -Blankets/Towels

 

       -Newspaper

 

       -Cat/Kitten Toys

 

       -Kitten/Cat food wet/dry (royal canine baby cat brand)

 

     -Dog treats

 

       -Fans

 

       -Metal Bowls

 

       -Grooming supplies

 

       -Leashes and collars

On Tuesday we will be reading to the Pre K class  & on Thursday we will read to the Kindergarten class celebrating Dr. Suess’s birthday later this week. If you have any favorite books from home that you would like to share, please bring them.

Wednesday we will celebrate the Leap Year with “Leap to Your Feet & Dance” throughout the day.

What we are studying this week

Language Arts: Grammar-Verbs Tenses; Reading- finishing Symphony of Whales

Math: Times 5 facts; finding the sum of 3 addends; Dividing by 2 & by 5; Working backward to solve a problem; Determining the liklihood of an event.

Science: Identify Inner & Outer Planets

Social Studies: Settlers in St. Louis

Homework and Assessment Schedule:

Monday- Math, lesson 89 + study times 5 facts for quiz tomorrow. Spelling, study for quiz tomorrow

Tuesday- Math, lesson 90; Reading, look over study guide & reread Symphony of Whales, test Wednesday; Social Studies, study for test Wednesday.

Wednesday- All reading and spelling practice book pages due for Symphony of Whales

Thursday- Math, lesson 91

Monday- Math, Lesson 86; Handwriting, finish “m”; Reading, finish workbook pages

Tuesday- Math, Lesson 86

Wednesday- Math, Lesson 87

Thursday- Math, Lesson 88; study for religion quiz

What’s Happening This Week

VALENTINE’S DAY

Don’t forget to wear your red or pink accessory with your uniform.

If you bring Valentine’s Day treats or cards, be sure to bring 16.

Heritage Day is this Friday!

Come to school representing your heritage. Can be a native costume or a sports t-shirt that shows your heritage.

We will have several parents who will bring samples of food native to their culture.

What we are leaning this week:

 Science- Beginning solar system unit. This week will focus on the use of the telescope

Reading/ Spelling- finishing up Night Letters

 Grammar & Writing- Verbs, quiz on Thursday that will cover subject-verb agreement as well as identifying verbs & verb phrases

Social Studies- How the U.S. and Canada gained their independence

Math- -7, -8, & -9 facts: reading & showing temp. on celsius scale;  identifying the number of days in a month and in a year; mulitplying by 5.

Homework:

Monday- Math, lesson 83; Spelling, and Reading,  finish Night Letters sections + study spelling words

Tuesday- Math, lesson 84; Reading, study for test

Wednesday- Math, lesson 85 + study subtraction facts

Thursday-

Test/Quiz Schedule

Monday- Religion

Tuesday- Spellimg

Wednesday- Reading (Night Letters); Math, subtracting 7, 8, and 9 assessment

Thursday- Grammar (Verbs); Math- timed 100 subtraction facts for 5 minutes + written assessment

Class News

FIELD TRIP THIS THURSDAY TO LEONIS ADOBE MUSEUM

Please bring lunch in a brown paper bag and wear your spirit shirts.

We will leave the school right after the morning assembly

 and return by 2:00 p.m.

What’s Up in the Classroom

Science- Finishing the chapter on Organisms Long Ago. The test is scheduled for Friday.

Reading- Night Lights, drawing conclusions. Test won’t be until next week.

Math- Be sure to practice your -7,  -8, and -9 facts; finding square roots; adding money; making reasonable predictions

Language Arts: Subject verb agreement

Religion- Study the parts of the Mass. Test scheduled for Monday.

Spelling- /j/ sound spelled /ge/ or /dge/ and /k/ sound spelled /ck/. No test this week.

Social Studies- Finished up with the following explorers: Columbus, de Champlain, and Cabrillo. Starting new lesson on Colonies in America.

Homework:

 Monday- finish spelling p. 49 and make sure words are written down in agenda

Tuesday- finish reading practice book pages 124 & 125.

Wednesday-

Thursday- Study for religion and science tests.

***Some students are not bringing back to school the next day their spelling and reading books. This puts the student way behind as most assignments are given class time to complete. ***

Catholic Schools Week

We are having a great Catholic Schools Week!

Hope you get a chance to come for lunch or Open House tonight from 6-7 pm

We are still having a reading & spelling test this Friday. The study guide that is going home has most of the questions on it.
